Οι Κτητικές Αντωνυμίες
The Possessive Pronouns

Lesson 21 - Greek Grammar

The possessive pronouns ( οι Κτητικές Αντωνυμίες ) show possession.
Example: My book / My own book. The "my, my own" is a possessive pronoun. It shows that the book belongs to "me".

The weak types of the possessive pronouns are:

Table 21.1
Ενικός Αριθμός - Singular Πληθυντικός Αριθμός - Plural
First Person μου (mine, my) μας (ours)
Second Person σου (yours) σας (yours)
Third Person του (his), της (hers), του (its) τους (theirs)

Many times the adjective "δικός (own), δική, δικό" is used before the "μου, σου, του, etc." So we have "δικός μου (my own), δική μου (my own) when we refer to feminine, δικό του (its own) when we refer to neuter, etc.
These are the strong types. We can decline the strong types of the possessive pronouns. Their declension follow the same rules of declension as the nouns that we learned in the previous lessons.
In other words if the adjective "δικός" is in the masculine form we decline it the same as a masculine noun.
The weak types of possessive pronouns go after the noun,
not before as they do in English.
The weak types are not declined.

Let's see some examples of the strong and weak types of the Possessive Pronouns:
Table 21.2

*Sometimes we need to put the article in front of the possessive pronoun (το δικό μου), and the noun for emphasis, or because "δικός", is an adjective and the adjectives always start with an article.
