Οι Προσωπικές Αντωνυμίες
The Personal Pronouns

Lesson 20 - Greek Grammar

In Greek Language just like in English, the personal pronouns ( οι Προσωπικές Αντωνυμίες ), show persons.
Example: Mary is a teacher / She is a teacher. The "she" is a personal pronoun. Now back to our lesson.

The personal pronouns are:

Table 20.1
Ενικός Αριθμός - Singular Πληθυντικός Αριθμός - Plural
Εγώ - I (First Person) Εμείς - We (First Person)
Εσύ - You (Second Person) Εσείς - You (Second Person)
Αυτός, αυτή, αυτό
he, she, it (Third Person)
Αυτοί, αυτές, αυτά
They (Third Person)

We can decline the personal pronouns. Study the table below for the declension.

Table 20.2

The declension of the pronouns follow the same rules as the declension of the nouns.
The types in parenthesis are the so called weak types of the pronouns.
The weak types are always used before the verb when the verb's action is passed on from the first person to a second person.
For example: I love you = σε αγαπώ
When the verb's action is given as an order from the first person to a second person then the weak type of the pronoun goes after the verb.
For example: love her = αγαπησέ την.

Let's see some examples of the strong and weak types of the Personal Pronouns:

* The "her (την)" and "them (τις,)" both refer to feminine.
