Lesson 26 - Greek Grammar

In this lesson we'll examine the Indefinite pronouns.
The Indefinite pronouns ( οι Αόριστες Αντωνυμίες ) show a person or thing without referring to a specific person, or specific thing.
They are:

Table 26.1

Κάποιος, κάποια, κάποιο (somebody, someone)
Μερικοί, μερικές, μερικά -Plural only- (some)
ένας, μία, ένα (a, an, one)
άλλος, άλλη, άλλο (another, other)
κάμποσος, κάμποση, κάμποσο (quite a bit)
κάτι (something)
καθένας, καθεμία, καθένα (each one, every one)
κάθε (each,every)
κανένας, καμία, κανένα (no one, nobody, none, any, anyone)
τίποτα or τίποτε (nothing)

The indefinite pronouns that have three genders, are declined the same as the nouns/adjectives with the same endings.
Example: κανένας, κανενός, κανένα or ένας, ενός, ένα.
The alternative form "κανείς" is used often instead of "κανένας"
The alternative form "κάνα" is used often instead of "κανένα".
Example: Έχεις κάνα βιβλίο; = Do you have any books?
The - κάτι, κάθε, τίποτα - are not declined.

Table 26.2 shows some examples.

Table 26.2

Δεν είναι κανένας εδώ. (Nobody is here.)
Κάποια μου το είπε. (Somebody told me that.)
Δεν θέλω τίποτα. (I want nothing.)
Κάναμε κάμποσα λεφτά. (We made quite a bit of money.)
Κάθε παιδί πηγαίνει στο σχολείο. (Every kid is going to school.)
Ένα από τα παιδιά. (One of the children.)
Μερικοί άνθρωποι είναι κακοί. (Some people are bad.)
Θα διαβάσω άλλο βιβλίο. (I'll read another book.)
Καθένας πήρε μια καραμέλα. (Each one took a candy.)
