   We left our hero Odysseus sleeping on top of the dry leaves. While he was sleeping he heard voices. He got up and slowly moved the plants a little so he could see. There were girls playing with a ball on the beach.

   The princess of the Phaeacians, Nausicaa (Ναυσικά), went with her servants to wash clothes. They washed the clothes and laid them down to dry. In the nearby river they washed themselves and then they started to sing and play.

   Odysseus did not know what to do. Finally he covered his naked body with a branch of a tree, and appeared in front of the girls. Dirty as he was, the girls got scared and they started to scream. Only Nausicaa stood still because Athena made her brave.
   Odysseus told her that he was fighting a storm for many days and asked her to give him something to wear. Nausicaa realized that he was not a regular person. The way that he was talking he seemed like someone with great knowledge. She ordered her servants to wash the stranger in the river and to dress him up.
   While the servants were taking care of Odysseus, Athena gave him such beauty that he looked like a god.

   Nausicaa gave him food and told him to follow her to the city. She would take him to see her father Alcinous (Αλκίνοος) and her mother Arete (Αρήτη).

   Αφήσαμε τον ήρωά μας τον Οδυσσέα να κοιμάται πάνω στα ξερόφυλλα. Ενώ κοιμόταν άκουσε φωνές. Σηκώθηκε και σιγά-σιγά μετακίνησε λίγο τα φυτά για να μπορέσει να δει. Ήταν κοπέλλες που έπαιζαν με μια μπάλα στην παραλία.

   Η πριγκήπισσα των Φαιάκων, η Ναυσικά, πήγε με τις υπηρέτριές της να πλύνει ρούχα. Έπλυναν τα ρούχα και τα άπλωσαν κάτω να στεγνώσουν. Σε ένα κοντινό ποτάμι λούστηκαν και έπειτα άρχισαν να τραγουδούν και να παίζουν.

   Ο Οδυσσέας δεν ήξερε τι να κάνει. Τελικά σκέπασε το γυμνό κορμί του με ένα κλαδί δέντρου, και εμφανίστηκε μπροστά στα κορίτσια. Βρώμικος όπως ήταν, τα κορίτσια φοβήθηκαν και άρχισαν να ουρλιάζουν. Μόνο η Ναυσικά κάθησε ακίνητη γιατί η Αθηνά την έκανε γενναία.
   Ο Οδυσσέας τις είπε πως πάλευε μια τρικυμία για πολλές μέρες και της ζήτησε να του δώσει κάτι να φορέσει. Η Ναυσικά κατάλαβε ότι αυτός δεν ήταν ένα απλό άτομο. Ο τρόπος που μιλούσε φαινόταν σαν άνθρωπος με μεγάλη γνώση. Διέταξε τις υπηρέτριές της να πλύνουν τον ξένο στο ποτάμι και να τον ντύσουν.
   Όταν οι υπηρέτριες φρόντιζαν τον Οδυσσέα, η Αθηνά του έδωσε τέτοια ομορφιά που φαινόταν σαν θεός.

   Η Ναυσικά του έδωσε φαγητό και του είπε να την ακολουθήσει στην πόλη. Θα τον πήγαινε να δει το πατέρα της τον Αλκίνοο και την μητέρα της την Αρήτη.
