In EnglishThe next morning Telemachus left early for the palace. He told Eumaeus to bring the beggar (Odysseus) there. Telemachus saw his mother and told her about his trip. She was upset when she heard that Telemachus did not find anything out about Odysseus.Eumaeus and Odysseus were walking towards the city. Odysseus was walking slowly and was holding a cane. On their way they saw another shepherd, Melanthius (Μελάνθιος). He spoke rudely to Eumaeus and the beggar. He even kicked Odysseus. Eumaeus yelled at him for his behavior and they walked towards the palace. Songs could be heard from far away. They entered the yard of the palace. There, close to the entrance was Argos, (Άργος) Odysseus' dog. The dog opened its eyes and wiggled its tail. He wanted to get up but he was so old that he could not. The dog recognized his boss. Odysseus saw his loyal dog and started crying. Argos turned and died. Odysseus wiped his tears so Eumaeus would not see them. They entered the big hall. Eumaeus went and sat with Telemachus and Odysseus stayed at the door. Telemachus got up and gave him some bread and meat. He then ordered a servant to tell him to come inside and beg. Odysseus went around the big table. Everybody gave him something. Adinous though denied him and told him to disappear from his eyes. He even hit him with a seat on his back. Telemachus did not say a word, as he was instructed by his father. The other suitors yelled at Adinous because he behaved like this to a stranger. It was getting dark. The suitors were still there and celebrating. They were making fun of Odysseus (the beggar). They even made him fight a drunk guy that happened to pass by there. Odysseus beat him and took him out of the hall. The suitors congratulated him for winning and Amphinomus offered him a glass of wine. Amphinomus was the best of among them and the beggar told him to leave this place because if Odysseus returned he'll kill them all. Amphinomus did not listen. The party was continuing. Odysseus was still there as beggar watching the suitors. They were teasing him but he was wisely answering back. Many of them mistreated him and hit him. But Odysseus did not care. The day of revenge was coming... In GreekΤην επόμενη μέρα ο Τηλέμαχος έφυγε νωρίς για το παλάτι. Είπε στον Εύμαιο να φέρει τον ζητιάνο (τον Οδυσσέα) εκεί. Ο Τηλέμαχος είδε την μητέρα του και της είπε για το ταξίδι του. Ήταν στεναχωρημένη όταν άκουσε ότι ο Τηλέμαχος δεν ανακάλυψε τίποτα για τον Οδυσσέα. Ο Εύμαιος και ο Οδυσσέας περπατούσαν προς την πόλη. Ο Οδυσσέας περπατούσε αργά και κρατούσε μαγκούρα. Στο δρόμο τους, είδαν έναν άλλο βοσκό, τον Μελάνθιο. Μίλησε αγενέστατα στον Εύμαιο και τον ζητιάνο. Κλώτσησε τον Οδυσσέα. Ο Εύμαιος τον φώναξε για την συμπεριφορά του και προχώρησαν προς το παλάτι. Τραγούδια ακούγονταν από μακρυά. Μπήκαν στην αυλή του παλατιού. Εκεί, κοντά στην είσοδο ήταν ο Άργος, το σκυλί του Οδυσσέα. Το σκυλί άνοιξε τα μάτια του και κούνησε την ουρά του. Ήθελε να σηκωθεί αλλά ήταν τόσο γέρικο και δεν μπορούσε. Το σκυλί αναγνώρισε το αφεντικό του. Ο Οδυσσέας είδε το πιστό σκυλί του και άρχισε να κλαίει. Ο Άργος γύρισε και πέθανε. Ο Οδυσσέας σκούπισε τα δάκρυά του ώστε να μην τον δει ο Εύμαιος. Μπήκαν στην μεγάλη αίθουσα. Ο Εύμαιος πήγε και κάθησε με τον Τηλέμαχο και ο Οδυσσέας έμεινε στην πόρτα. Ο Τηλέμαχος σηκώθηκε και του έδωσε ψωμί και κρέας. Έπειτα διέταξε έναν υπηρέτη να του πει να έλθει μέσα και να ζητιανέψει. Ο Οδυσσέας πήγε γύρω στο μεγάλο τραπέζι. Όλοι του έδωσαν κάτι. Ο Αντίνοος αρνήθηκε και του είπε να εξαφανιστεί από τα μάτια του. Τον χτύπησε με ένα κάθισμα στην πλάτη του. Ο Τηλέμαχος δεν είπε ούτε μια λέξη, όπως είχε καθοδηγηθεί από τον πατέρα του. Οι άλλοι μνηστήρες φώναξαν στον Αντίνοο γιατί συμπεριφέρθηκε έτσι σε ένα ξένο. Σκοτείνιαζε. Οι μνηστήρες ήταν ακόμα εκεί και διασκέδαζαν. Κορόιδευαν τον Οδυσσέα (τον ζητιάνο). Τον έβαλαν να παλέψει με έναν μεθυσμένο που τυχαία περνούσε από εκεί. Ο Οδυσσέας τον νίκησε και τον έβγαλε από την αίθουσα. Οι μνηστήρες τον συγχάρηκαν για την νίκη του και ο Αμφίνομος του πρόσφερε ένα ποτήρι κρασί. Ο Αμφίνομος ήταν ο καλύτερος ανάμεσά τους και ο ζητιάνος του είπε να φύγει απ' αυτό το μέρος γιατί αν γυρίσει ο Οδυσσέας όλους θα τους σκοτώσει. Ο Αμφίνομος δεν άκουσε. Η διασκέδαση συνεχίζονταν. Ο Οδυσσέας ήταν ακόμη εκεί σαν ζητιάνος παρακολουθώντας τους μνηστήρες. Τον κορόιδευαν αλλά αυτός σοφά τους απαντούσε. Πολλοί από αυτούς τον κακομεταχειρίστηκαν και τον χτύπησαν.
