The Declension of the Neuter

Lesson 16 - Greek Grammar

  This is the final lesson on the declension of nouns. The tables below will show you the declension of the final gender, the Neuter.

Attention
Again, keep in mind that a neuter noun will always be a neuter noun. It will not change to a masculine or feminine as you decline it. Learn the endings of each category well and you'll know how to decline almost all the neuter nouns!

Possessive των -ων -ιων -ματων -ων -ατων -ατων

Vocative --- -α -ια -ματα -η -ατα -ατα

   *The Neuter that end in -ος are declined in the singular, almost the same as the feminine that end in -ος.


 Let's now decline some neuters with different endings.

  Examples of declension of the neuters that end in -ας are below. Also, there are some neuters that end in -ως, and some in . The ones that end in -α, are declined almost the same, as the ones that end in -μα.
   Other neuters end in -σιμο, -ψιμο, -ξιμο. These endings called derivative endings. The nouns derive from other type of words. example from the verb "δένω (tie)", derives the noun "το δέσιμο (tying, binding)".
The table below shows some of these neuters:
