Odysseus headed north to find the kingdom of the dead. He told his
companions where they were going and they got very scared, but they obeyed his orders.
Days later they arrived at the land of Cimmerians (Κιμμέριοι). There the sun never
shined, and it was cold. They pulled their ship on the beach and they found the
rivers that spilled into the Aherodas river. There they dug a deep pit. Odysseus
poured honey, wine and water in the pit. He spread barley flour and then,
